Wyeth’s Beach
This shoot with the lovely Clare James was inspired by the work of Andrew Wyeth, whose realist paintings speak of intense isolation with barren and beautiful landscapes, under soft overcast skies or acidic, pallid sunlight.

Fashion Shoot - January 2022
Photography & Art Direction: Ali Green
Model: Clare James
Location: Mawgan Porth - ///defend.cherish.downs
This shoot took inspiration from the work of American artist Andrew Wyeth. A realist painter whose work resonates a strange sense of isolation. Cold, baron landscapes dominate the composition leaving single lone figures appearing solitary and lost.
His pallet is muted and earthy with acidic tones to convey cold sunlight - an honest and unsympathetic portrayal of his world and that of the people who inspired him. Christian’s World is his most noted piece.
This style and Mawgan Porth beach set the tone for this project.
When the tide is low after the break of dawn, the beach is smooth and damp creating a mirror-like effect with the sky. The tones are soft, beautiful pale blues to soft browns and after the rain, the land bleeds water over the beach to meet the sea.
I selected the wardrobe based on strong silhouettes, neutral tones, and practicality. The style is timeless and champions slow fashion, focussing on clothing that trends every year.
I chose Clare as a model for this project, as she has a strong natural beauty. Being comfortable and at ease outdoors she has effortless grace and connection to her surroundings.
