There are many stories held within art and the made object. A single piece holds within it the marks of its maker and all the hands it may have passed through since.
There is something so personal in handmade; when we collect a piece, we become part of its history, connected to the artist and the process of its making. This connection might start with the object or with the artist — connection to one becomes connection to the other.
When sensitively captured to show the resonance between an object and its maker, photography offers a window into this creative world, nurturing connection and painting a picture of where art may place within someone’s day to day life.
With a background in art and deep respect for the creative process, I work with natural light and considered styling to authentically reflect an artist’s voice, offering a mirror to their work.
Shoots designed around makers and artists may draw from multiple photography genres and styles — including lifestyle, portraiture, product or interior — to offer windows into their creative world and nurture connection within. Through still or moving image, the forms, shapes, colours, textures and materiality of a piece is translated, whilst offering a sense of the less tangible (but as important) intentions and concepts.
For the maker, the collaborative photography process may offer new perspectives of their self and work when viewed through someone else’s eye. For an artist’s audience, these captures form visual invitations into the artist’s world, gently guiding them through the making process whilst communicating the intricate skill, passion, time, knowledge and materials invested into a single piece.
